6 - 10 p.m.

East Hartford Cultural Center
50 Chapman Place, East Hartford, CT

We are planning what we expect to be the 1st Annual Celebrating Our Holistic Community event. It's a unique opportunity to bring the community together in the early spring for celebration. Seldom do we make the time or have a good reason to get together just to enjoy each other's company. This is it and we request the presence of your company!

Here's what the evening will include:

Good Food From Taste Of India

Doors open at 6 p.m. for socializing and at 6:15 we'll begin serving a buffet dinner catered by West Hartford's Taste Of India. Enjoy the exotic flavors of authentic Indian cuisine, with a few delicacies from North and South India. India’s cuisine is a combination of subtle tastes where the flavors are as varied as India’s climate and as exotic as India’s people. Spices will be mild and vegetarian choices available.

Roast/Tribute For Jon Roe

Each year we'll choose someone from the community to celebrate. This year's honoree is Jon Roe, founder and former publisher of The Door Opener magazine, for over 20 years of supporting holistic and spiritual activities in Connecticut. Jon has been active with the Connecticut Holistic Health Asso., The New Age Guild of Connecticut, The Connection For Health Network and Connecticut Health Institute to name a few. For additional see Jon's bio.

At 7:30 the program will begin with a tribute highlighted by a slide show of Jon's early developmental years compiled and presented by his son and daughter. Every child should have the opportunity to roast their parents at some point in their life. It's therapeutic for the children and keeps the ego in line.

Dory Dzinski, editor and publisher of The Door Opener, will speak for the holistic community.

There may be a few of Jon's friends and relatives that have already passed, but who would like to contribute to the evening. Micheley Angelina, a medium among many other things, will attempt to contact them and relay their messages.

This part of the evening will be coordinated and hosted by Jocelyne Columbe.

Cabaret

Many of those in our community are very creative and talented, but we don't often have the opportunity to share our gifts with each other. This will be a unique chance to see and hear each other perform. Among those performing are some professionals: Jazz singer Micheley Angelina is a member of the band Joie de Jazz; and Margo Hennebach, Adrienne Jones & Mark Saunders are the eclectic group Mad Agnes. It should be quite a night.

For a list of all performers see Program.

Raising Funds For Children

Although we are getting together for fun and celebration there is also a serious side to the event. We are raising money for two organizations that support children. All proceeds from the event will go to the organizations.

Jenipher Young-Hall's Mahila's Children raises money for cleft palate operations and for the education of Nepalese children. To date over 200 operations have been performed and 18 girls are attending school.

The Cranial Facial Unit of the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford coordinates and provides multidisciplinary specialty care for children with congenital defects of the head and neck or acquired defects secondary to trauma and/or oncology; including cleft palates.

Tickets and Reservations

Tickets are available for $30 and can be purchased from Robin Clare of Enlightened Professionals by calling (860) 232-3331 or they can be purchased online by credit card from her website at www.epllc.org. Reservations must be made by Wednesday, April 7. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
